Manage sections (Order fields)

Overview

Use Modify View to customize where each field is displayed in your project. For each field, you can adjust the settings for Record View, Filter/Charts, Search Fields, Export, and Results Table View. These options are available for fields selected when you added your data to the project.

You can also use Manage Sections to organize/(re)order fields for easier viewing. By default, fields are placed in an Unassigned Section if uploading from a spreadsheet. Otherwise, if you added source data using an iSearch URL, the fields will automatically be organized into the corresponding sections from iSearch. See more details below.

Modify view

Use the Turn all off option for the entire section to remove this from all views. You can also use Select All/Deselect All at the top of each column to turn all available fields on or off for that particular view, i.e. Record view, which may be useful during coding exercises. Turn individual fields on or off for each view as needed.

The Filter/Charts option is available only for fields that have been configured as Filterable during Manage Content set up; most fields can be updated to filterable in Manage Content except long text fields which are disabled from being filterable at all times.

Note: Changes made in Modify View apply to all users in the project. Modify Display View (in Record View) and general individual Preferences are currently in development so individual users who are not Managers can also make adjustments to their view only.

Table view

It is important to be mindful of how many fields you are adding the view in the Table, as adding many fields to this view will effect readability and table performance. We have selected a handful of useful fields for iSearch sources automatically.

If you attempt to add entire sections using the Table view checkbox at the top of the column, some of these fields may not be able to be viewed in the Table (i.e. long text fields such as Abstract), and/or may not be very helpful for this view; a warning will also appear and you can choose to Continue to add all to Table View or Cancel.

Coding fields

When Coding fields are set to view in the Table unique columns will appear for each Coder in the Table view. This will only be the case for Owners and Managers.

Manage sections

Access Manage Sections from Modify View in Settings. You can reorder and manage these sections by toggling to Manage Sections.

Note: If you added source data using an iSearch URL, sections from iSearch will automatically be created based on the fields you included in the project. These can be reordered as needed. Currently, changes an owner or manager makes here (and across Modify view as mentioned earlier) will apply to all views and all collaborators in the project.

User preferences to allow individual collaborators to save their preferences related to Modify View and Manage Sections are in development, as well as the Manager and Owners choice to Save for all collaborators or Save only for themselves.

Turn on Manage Sections to add or edit sections. If you have added an iSearch source, all of the fields will be in their appropriate sections already.

If you added source data using a spreadsheet, your project may not have any sections by default. You can create sections as needed.

Click Add New Section, then drag the fields you want to include into the new section. You can also drag and drop sections to reorder them.

When you have finished adding or modifying sections, click Save at the bottom of the screen.

Open the Results Table to view the records in your project, then select a record to view the sections in Record View.

In Record View, you will see your new sections along with any remaining fields that have not been assigned to a section.
